These CP class 5600 locomotives made by Siemens / KraussMaffei in Germany are the most typical InterCity train locomotives of today's Portugal. The locomotive type is nearly identical to the Spanish RENFE's class 252 and almost identical to the fairly famous Siemens prototype locomotive "EuroSprinter". Originally Siemens wasn't able to sell its EuroSprinter locomotives to its own home country, but they were sold to Spain, Greece and Portugal.Further developments with altered looks became later very popular in Germany, Austria and other countries too. The difference between RENFE's EuroSprinters and these is that RENFE's machines can also run with DC current, these can not, but are pure AC 25kV machines. Another class 5600 Siemens EuroSprinter locomotive. Originally the Siemens prototypes had a yellow nose part. They were built by Siemens in 1993-95 in 30 copies and they have been used both as passenger as well as cargo train locomotives. The locomotive is made for broad gauge 1668 mm and 25 kV 50 Hz electricity. The machine's maximum speed is 220 km/h and power output is 5600 kW.
