Adria Transport is a multinational company which is owned by the Graz-Köflacher Bahn of Austria and Luka Koper dd. Koper is a city in Slovenia. Besides Austria and Slovenia, Adria Trasport is active also at least in Croatia, Hungary, Czech Republic and Romania with maybe more. We try to collect all pictures related to Adria Transport here, no matter of the country where the pictures have been taken. Adria Transport's headquarters are in Koper, Slovenia.

This machine is of the type Br2016. It's a Siemens Hercules machine, also known as Eurorunner ER20, formerly Baureihe 2016 of the Austrian national railways ÖBB. ÖBB bought many of these big diesels to take care of the traffic on Austrian not yet electrified networks both for passenger but also for cargo traffic, but as electrification of lines has rolled forward, many of these relatively new machines have been left out of their original job. Subsequently, some of them ended up at Adria Transport and Adria Transport has even been renting some of them further out in use in eastern European countries where electric locomotives cannot yet be used. Thus many of the originally ÖBB's Hercules machines are today working in areas far easter than the Republic of Austria.

This Br 2018 Hercules was photographed by Otto Tuomainen 14.5.2023 in Vendryně in the Czech Republic.

ÖBB's class 1822 was a very strong and fast locomotive type which was designed for pulling heavy trains up the Brenner mountain route. However only five prototype machines were ever made, so for ÖBB this was such a small series that maintaining them was not profitable. At ÖBB these machines were mostly used in the so called corridor traffic from Innsbruck to Lienz. But when that traffic was closed down ÖBB sold all five machines to Poland. From Poland three of them came back to Austria, (Two others were scrapped) and their new owner is P&P Eisenbahntechnik. P&P has rented the machines to Adria Transport. These machines were built 1990-1991, they had a top speed of 140 km/h and a power rating of 4400 kW.
